High-Strength PP+PA Film | Puncture Resistance | Moisture Barrier | Customizable Release Force
UPASS PP+PA Film is a multilayer functional film developed for roof underlayment, waterproofing membranes, self-adhesive waterproofing membranes and butyl waterproofing tape.
Combining polypropylene (PP) with a PA nylon reinforcement and barrier layer, the film provides a balance of mechanical strength, puncture resistance, flexibility and moisture barrier performance.
Compared with conventional PP release film, PP+PA Film is designed for applications where the film may need to withstand higher mechanical stress, high-adhesion adhesive systems or thicker adhesive layers.
The film is available in 30–180 μm thickness and 300–2600 mm slitting width, with customizable release force from 5–100g according to the application.
Roof underlayment and waterproofing membrane products can require more than a basic polymer film.
During manufacturing, converting, transportation and installation, the film may be exposed to pulling, puncture, adhesive pressure and moisture.
A conventional PP film may not provide enough mechanical strength for demanding applications.
PP+PA Film combines the flexibility of PP with the reinforcement and barrier properties of PA nylon to provide a more robust film solution.
The supplied product specification indicates MD tensile strength ≥18 MPa, with puncture resistance more than 50% higher than pure PP release film.
PP+PA Film can be used as a functional film material for roof underlayment applications.
Roof underlayment products need to maintain their integrity during manufacturing, handling and installation. Film breakage or puncture can affect production efficiency and the performance of the finished underlayment.
The PA reinforcement layer helps improve mechanical performance, while the PP-based construction maintains flexibility.
For roof underlayment manufacturers, PP+PA Film can be considered when the application requires:
UPASS can supply the film according to the required thickness and width for downstream roof underlayment production.
PP+PA Film is also designed for waterproofing membrane applications, particularly self-adhesive and adhesive-based membrane systems.
The film can provide a combination of mechanical reinforcement, barrier performance and controlled release where required by the membrane construction.
For self-adhesive waterproofing membranes, release performance is an important consideration because the film must remain properly positioned during storage and handling while allowing controlled removal during installation.
PP+PA Film offers customizable release-force levels:
The appropriate release force should be selected according to the adhesive formulation and actual membrane construction.
PP+PA Film can also be used for butyl waterproofing tape and related adhesive waterproofing products.
Butyl adhesive systems can require a release film with sufficient mechanical strength to withstand converting, slitting, winding and handling.
Compared with standard PP release film, PP+PA Film provides enhanced mechanical and barrier performance through its PA reinforcement layer.
This makes it suitable for applications where customers are looking for a stronger release film for:
Release force can be selected according to the adhesive system and required peeling behavior.
Mechanical strength is one of the main advantages of PP+PA Film.
The current specification provides an MD tensile strength of ≥18 MPa.
The PA nylon layer also improves resistance to puncture and mechanical damage. According to the supplied product information, puncture resistance is more than 50% higher than pure PP release film.
This performance is particularly relevant to roofing and waterproofing products where the film may experience:
For customers currently using conventional PP film and experiencing film breakage or puncture problems, PP+PA Film provides an alternative film structure for evaluation.
The PA nylon layer also provides enhanced barrier performance compared with conventional PP and PE release films.
For roof underlayment and waterproofing products, controlling moisture and water-vapor transmission can be an important part of the overall material design.
PP+PA Film provides a functional barrier layer while maintaining the flexibility associated with a PP-based film.
The film also provides resistance to oil and grease, making it suitable for selected adhesive and waterproofing systems where these properties are required.
Actual barrier performance should be evaluated according to the complete film structure and finished product design.

Final specifications should be confirmed according to the customer's application, adhesive system and production requirements.
The correct PP+PA Film specification depends on the finished waterproofing or roofing product.
First determine whether the film is for:
Different adhesive systems require different release characteristics.
For example, the required release force may fall within:
5–15 g → Light Release
15–40 g → Medium Release
40–100 g → Heavy Release
UPASS provides:
Thickness: 30–180 μm
Slitting Width: 300–2600 mm
The appropriate specification depends on the customer's equipment and finished product construction.
The current temperature specification is:
80°C long-term
120°C short-term
If the production process involves higher temperatures, the actual process conditions should be discussed before selecting the film.
If you are currently using standard PP release film, let us know if you experience:
